Alexa Hainsworth Vibratory

This installation brings together suspended and grounded textile forms to explore states of transition, protection, and weight. The hanging elements hover overhead like fragments of shelter, glyphs or drifting sound. Their layered translucent surfaces allow light and shadow to pass through and multiply across the space.

Shadows function as an extension of the work, activating the walls and ceiling and positioning the viewer inside the installation rather than outside it. Moving through the space, the body becomes aware of its own scale and vulnerability, caught between suspension and grounding. You may float through the space or sit in contemplation among the creatures and forms.

A person sits on a dark studio floor against a raw concrete wall, posed in a contemporary dance position. One leg is bent and lifted, foot flexed in a black sock, while the other leg extends along the floor. They support themselves with one hand behind them and raise the other hand in a curved, expressive gesture, gazing upward toward it. They wear loose beige pants and an oversized black shirt. Soft natural light from the side highlights their face and arm, creating gentle shadows on the textured concrete wall.
